Outlook

Karlton_MimsA super quick, well rounded combo guard. A natural point but quite often forced to the shooting guard position because of his great ability to score and shoot the ball.  Fantastic condition and possessing GREAT upper body strength.  Sees the floor REALLY well and can lead a team.  As a defender he is a menace in the passing lane and will disrupt and offense from ever getting into their flow.  On the ball can apply great pressure and will have some backcourt steals leading to easy layups.  Off the ball can create his own shot and rotates easily into the scoring guard mentality.  An exceptional FT shooter whom always has the ball in his hands at the end of games to ensure no TO and if he is fouled is the right player to have on the line.  A great addition to any backcourt .

Career

Karlton_Mims

2009-10:  Returned to Portugal after and outstanding season and signed with Vitoria. Showed why he was so hotly pursued as he paired with fellow B3 player Rod Nealy took Vitoria to the top of the standings into an immediate contender.  Had double figure assists on two occasions vs Porto (11/15/10) and vs Benfica (12/13/09).  Showed his great court vision by rankding 9th in league in assists by dishing out 4.1apg.  Recorded a season high 25pts on two occasions as well vs CAB (1/10/10) and against his former team Academia (3/28/10) when he also went 3-5 from beyond the 3pt line.  Also played a strong game and registed 7 rebounds and 23pts vs league champs Benfica.  Lead his team all the way to the league semi-finals before being defeated at the hands of their rivals Benfica!  Because of his outstanding play, he was Named to the Eurobasket all 2nd team for the season.

2008-09: Signed with Academica de Coimbra of Portugal UZO and had a fantastic regular season.  Such a great season he was named to the Eurobasket all 1st team for the season.  Also named to the All-Imports team. Had a thigh injury which caused him to miss 10 games but was super effective when he was healthy.  Posted a regular season high 28pts vs Fisica on 10/25/08 to go with 5rebs, 3 assists, a blocked shot and a steal.  Grabbed a season high 9 rebounds to go along with 4 assists, 2 steals and 14pts against Ginasio on 2/21/09.  Exploded behind the 3pt line with 4-10 vs Barreirense on 4/18/09 for 27pts, 6rebs and a season high 5 steals.  Led a team whose goal was to be to stay in the top league to a 5th place finish and then into the playoffs.  Made short work of Vagos in the first round and Karlton was on point averaging nearly 19ppg in that playoff series while shooting a hot 40% from behind the arc (8-20)  in the 3-1 series victory.  Matched up with Benfica in the semi finals and pushed the regular season champions to the limit.  Had 2 tripe overtime games the last of which saw Karlton score 29pts on 5-8 3pts and 6steals in a huge victory to force the decisive game 5.

2007-08: Signed with Fjolnir of the Iceland Express League to start the season and established himself as the premier player in the league posting better than 22ppg, while grabbing 5apg and dishing out just about the same number of assists in 5apg.  His illuminating play drew many eyes and Portuguese powerhouse Benfica came calling.  Karlton got out of his Icelandic contract and was quickly signed where he continued his fantastic play.  He shot an unbelievable 58% from the 3pt line for the rest of the season in Portugal and lead the team to a semi finals finish.  Again he dished out more than 5 apg to lead the team and place him in the top 3 in the league.

2006-07: Signed with Parvoon Tarmo of the Finnish Korisliiga Was a great addition to the team and played the PG spot full time.  Counted on to get all the other players going and had to defer his own offense for the benefit of the team. Joined the team when they were tied for 9th position and helped them as high as 5th before finishing the regular season and heading into the playoffs in the 7th spot.  Had a season high 21pts on a whopping 5/7 3pt shooting vs Tampereen Pyrinto (10/01/07).  Dished out a season high 7 assists vs KTP (7/3/07).  Showed his tenacious rebounding ability and grabbed 8 rebs on two separate occasions.  Always finds ways to contribute to the team and make the players around him excel.  Shot a team high 41% from beyond the arc.

2005-06:
Joined the Michigan Mayham of the CBA and immediately showed great ability.  Second on the team in assists while splitting time at the PG and SG spots.....first on the team in 3pt attempts and conversions, while leading the team with an impressive 41%.  Second on the team and 7th in the league in steals with 1.7 thefts per game.  Had several noteworthy games vs Rockford (1/29/06) 30pts, 4ass, 2stls......vs Sioux Falls (12/21/05) 23pts, 5rebs, 4assists, 2-3 from 3pt.......vs Rockford (12/22/05) 26pts, 10assists, 3rebs, 3-5 3pt line.  At the conclusion of the season Mims was snatched up by the Gary Steelheads as an insurance policy for their run at the Championship and Mims proved invaluable coming off the bench before Gary finally lost in the CBA championship.  Was named to the All-Rookie team in the CBA and was 3rd on the balloting narrowly losing Rookie of the year honors to Roger Powell Jr.

2004-05:

His senior year at Washburn saw him earn accolade upon accolade......named to the MIAA All-Conference team....dished a season high 10assits vs Eastern New Mexico on 11/27/04, to go along with 23pts and 4rebs....attempted a season high 11 3pt FG vs Tabour College (11/17/04)....scored in double figures 21 times on the season....
